End of 1st Semester Rapidly Approaches!

Hello my favorite party shamrockers! Did you know that the end of first semester is rapidly approaching and there are only a few more days to review, stay for Late Buses, and turn in any missing assignments? Utilize your resources including Late Bus/Early Bus and Lunch Bunch. Make a study date at the library. Set aside some time to prepare.  Next week Thursday (1/12/12) you will all be going to one of my favorite places in the world...Camp Sunrise. I can't decide if I want it to snow so we can go sledding, cross country skiiing, and play broom ball or if I relish more the near 50 degree weather we are having. Whatever the case, make sure to dress appropriately and get excited.

The following week (1/16-1/20) is the week of Finals! We do not have school on Monday in observation of MLK Day. Tuesday is the last day for class review and finals begin Wednesday. So pay attention in the class the next few days, take copious notes, check you grade sheets, and complete your make-up work! Come check out the bulletin board outide the psych office for test taking and study tips and tools. Also congratulate and give well wishes to some of our seniors who will be graduating at the semester's end.

The following week (1/23/12) you do not have school on Monday due to a Teacher Institute Day. So sleep in and enjoy your time off, while staff learn ways to become better and more effective educators. Also, your next half day will be February 14th because we just love staff development. Get the play on words? Make your Valentine's Day Plans now! There is a revised early release schedule for the remainder of the school year, so please see the ASOU website for more details.

Have a fabulous weekend. Do something nice for someone. Do something nice for yourself. Take care party shamrockers!

Going into the home stretch

Can you believe that there are only 2 weeks of school left before Winter Vacation? We have a lot of exciting things coming up. After School Club will be meeting on Wednesday December 7th. We plan on going to watch a movie at the AMC 30 Barrington theaters. Make sure to get a permission slip asap. Our last adventure to Gameworks was a huge success, as some students earned over 1,000 tickets and won some great prizes. We have a winter themed Community Activity planned for Friday, December 16th. Stay tuned for more details.

Now is the perfect time to check out your attendance, homeowork completion rate, and level status...and make changes or improvments if you need to before we leave for break. Challenge yourself to get back on level or move up to the next level. Do you need to show more care and concern? Accept more help? Turn in homework? What is keeping you from turning in your homework? What is keeping you from coming to school regularly and on-time? Can you call or encourage and help a peer? Think about it...and have a great next two weeks!

Yes, it's that time of year again as we all come together to show the world that bullying is unacceptable. Did you know that 160,000 kids each day miss school because they fear being bullied!?!? National Anti-Bullying week begins Monday November 14th. With the slogan ‘Stop and think – words can hurt’ this year’s campaign is focused on tackling verbal bullying.

Friday Friday Friday!

Happy Fist Pump Friday!

You did a wonderful job participating in Spirit Week and the super fun Community Activity. Ms. O and I rocked it on Jersey Shore Day. The price definitely was right. You have upped your care and concern game this week and welcomed our new students. Keep it up! Remember what we are working on in group: having our ID's on, writing in our assignment notebooks every day, and being in check for reporting. We do not have school next Friday for Veteran's Day. Make good choices this weekend. Be Safe!

Friday Grade Sheet Printout Day

Hello lovely ladies!

Don't forget on Fridays we print out grade sheets and the group homework, which will be due Monday, is to take it home to be reviewed and signed by your parents. Don't ruin the group goal. Help show care and concern and remind each other. Make it your FB status, text someone, catch them when they get on the bus!

And remember: It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! Have a great weekend, make good choices.

Go Purple!

Millions of people around the world wear purple on Spirit Day to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying.  As a response to the increasing number of young people who, feeling unaccepted, had taken their own lives. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan.  Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on The Rainbow Flag.  Getting involved is easy.  Participants are asked to simply "go purple" on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are, no matter their sexuality.
On October 20th (Thursday), we invite you to wear purple to bring awareness to and put an end to intolerance.  Please help our community understand that times will get better, and that they will meet people who will love and respect them for who they are.
